4 Things You Need to Know From the Municipal Budget Workshop

Here's what happened at last night's municipal budget workshop meeting.

As the township commission works its way through budget presentations this month, yesterday, police and fire offcials presented their plans for this year's budget.

1. Both fire and police departments want to fill openings created by upcoming retirements.

2. Superstorm Sandy cost the Cranford Fire Department $18,000 in overtime last year.

3. The Cranford Police Department is looking for an increase in salary and wage spending for their budget in 2013, for a total of $6,104,014. It's an increase of about $439,330 over last year's budget.

4. The Cranford Fire Department, which handled just over 60 calls for structure fires last year, wants to increase its budget for 2013 by about $143,000 to $2,772,000.
