County Manager: Lenape a No Go for Skate Park

Construction on the Lenape Park skeet site could give rise to a list of environmental concerns.

Correspondence between Union County officials calls the construction of a skate park in Lenape Park "unfeasible" due to environmental and flooding concerns.

The township committee passed a new resolution on Tuesday committing to reach out to county officials for more information in the consideration of the skeet range at Lenape Park as a possible park site.

In a letter from County Manager George Devanney to Freeholder Alexander Mirabella, Devanney said construction on the Lenape Park site would disturb the park's freshwater wetlands, be prone to flood issues, and may have to contend with the same issues that made the Environmental Protection Agency close the trap and skeet range in the first place.

"I’m puzzled about the Cranford resolution given that these are not new issues or constraints and have been discussed in the past," Devanney said. He went on to suggest that the freeholders pass a resolution that would deem a Lenape skate park request by Cranford unfeasible.
