Freeholder Honored During Her Last Meeting
Union County Freeholder Deborah Scanlon will retire at the end of this year.

Freeholder Deborah P. Scanlon, a resident of Union, was honored by her colleagues on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders during her last meeting as a freeholder this month.
Scanlon, a five-term Freeholder whose retirement is effective at the end of this year, distinguished her career by serving as a steady advocate for women, children, and families in need.
A two-time survivor of cancer, she championed cancer-prevention programs including mammography awareness for young and underprivileged women. She served as a liaison to Runnells Hospital, and worked to expand one of the county’s most popular family services, the Union County Child Safety Seat program, which has provided more than 50,000 inspections.

Nice send off by Patch, however in our opinion Scanlons latest achievement may have been the power to allegedly stonewall an investigation into the theft of chainsaws from the union county DPW. Her son who she stuck on the county payroll just months before the incident quickly became a suspect in the theft. However after a full whole year, the investigation by the county prosecutors office has not been finalized. Selective prosecution could be the call of the day. And oddly, her son had then quit the county employ as the chainsaw investigation started and he was "interviewed" by the county police.
Freeholder scanlon may be an unfortunate cancer victim, but even cancer victims could harbor something even darker in their hearts. Goodbye debbie, we only knew you too well. And thanks to the corrupted system at the union county selective prosecutors office, "connected" people can walk with no accountability and the forecast for the investigation by them will come up short and unproven. A sad legacy to carry forth.
