Garwood Police Looking for Missing Teen

Jayson Bernardo left his home Sunday evening and has not returned. He was last believed to be in Westfield.

The Garwood Police Department is looking for a teenage boy reported missing by his mother.

AnnMarie Torres said her son Jayson Bernardo, 16, of Garwood, left home Sunday, July 22, to pick up his cell phone, which he'd left in a friend's car, and has not returned.

Bernardo is 5'5", 140 lbs and is believed to be traveling by car with his girlfriend, Amber, of Cranford. She is also a minor, said Torres who did not give out Amber's last name.

Torres filed a missing person's report with Garwood police this morning but Bernardo is currently being treated as a runaway since he left of his own free will.

"He came home late, around 1 a.m. on the night of the 18th, and he was punished so he wasn't supposed to leave the house," Torres said. "Last night, I wasn't home but he was with his grandmother and he left to get his cell phone. I talked to him on the phone and told him he wasn't supposed to leave the house and we'd talk about it when he got home and he hasn't come back."

Torres said a friend of her son's said he spoke to him on the phone around 3:15 p.m. today and Bernardo stated that he was in Westfield.

He was last seen by friends in Clark at Quick Chek at 10 p.m. last night.

Earlier this month the Cranford Police Department located Wiktoria Dziekanska, 14, who had gone missing from her residence. A county alarm was issued and the Union County Police assisted in the search. Dziekanska was returned home safely by Cranford police.

Anyone with information about Bernardo is asked to contact Torres immediately at 908-591-5755 or call the Garwood Police at 908-789-1500.

Any info on what he is wearing or the make/model/color/plates of the car he is allegedly in? Sounds like multiple departments are also looking for him.
