New Jersey State Offices Closed Monday

Closures announced ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

State offices will be closed Monday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Chris Christie's office announced.

Non-essential employees should not report to work Monday, while essential employees should report to work on schedule, according to the press release.

Christie declared a state of emergency on Saturday and ordered the evacuation of the Barrier Islands by 4 p.m. on Sunday. Gaming will stop at 3 p.m. in Atlantic Casinos, with casinos to close at 4 p.m. In addition, tolls have been suspended on the northbound Garden State Parkway and the Atlantic City Expressway beginning Sunday at 6 a.m.

Oh, come on. Just another day off for the civil "servants." This is now labeled a "storm" not a hurricane for NJ.

Do you know the difference between storm and hurricane? The difference is 2 miles an hour.

Its the same strength as a hurricane. Its actually worse than a hurricane its a nor Easter /hurricane together. Because of the pressure difference they can't call it a hurricane. Everyone should be safe, state worker or not. Maybe you should watch the news dumb ass!!!!

I live on the water and 57 mph is 57 mph. I resent your language and have of course been watching the more up to date information on the internet. In Ocean County this is no longer being called a hurricane: it is a storm like many we get year round. The more restrained Mayor has not declared this an evacuation situation. Maybe wiser heads should look at this minute by minute and not make huge blanket decisions this early in the game.

But you have obviously more dollars to waste than most of us. And given your use of the english language, don't even bother to respond.

As I understand they do have rivers and streams up in Trenton that will have major flooding due to the amount of rain that they have forecasted inland as well. I hope everybody is safe.

Really State of Emergency means just that, even if they are, "State Workers'. They are planning to close many of the road ways, and there is a risk of down lines and trees this is a good enough reason for state offices to close. Those state workers are our family members that would be puttting themselves in harms way going to work, just because they are state workers!

Couldn't have said it any better Lori!!! I guess some would rather have any worker risk their lives. I bet alot of people will be off tomorrow because of all the roads that will be closed, just like at the end of June with that Derichio storm that hit New Jersey.

No, I do not have a single state worker in my family. So many of those folks hold down two and three of those jobs that there just aren't enough to go around.

Wonder if that means the dippers will get paid for both or all of those jobs they don't have to go to?

Those dippers are politicians with more than one job, not the guy out there trying to keep the roads safe. So if an office worker not the politician, dies on the way to a government office, will you be glad the office was still open?

Not every state worker is a politician raking in 3 salaries! Some are just average people trying to survive in this economy just like you. I resent when people lump state workers into one pile and assume they are all bad people.
