Police Investigate Homicide on Greaves Place
Cranford Police find 22-year-old woman dead in the basement of a township residence.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force and the Cranford Police Department are currently investigating the death of a woman, Pamela Schmidt, 22, of Warren, N.J. , that occurred on Sunday, Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow announced in a press statement released the morning of March 14.
Cranford Police were called to a residence on Greaves Place around noon on March 13, where they discovered Schmidt unresponsive in a basement room, said Romankow in the statement. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy by the county medical examiner determined that Schmidt suffered traumatic injuries and that her death was ruled a homicide, said Romankow.
Investigators have determined a person of interest in connection with her death, but no charges have been filed as of Monday morning. This remains an active investigation, according to the procecutor's office.
It appears to be an isolatd incident, Romankow said in the release, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
