Lincoln Student Charged With Possession Of a BB Gun In School

The information below was obtained by the Cranford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Cranford Police took a 16-year-old student into custody on May 24 after the teen was found to be in possession of a weapon inside the school building.

At 2:30 p.m., police responded to Lincoln School - which houses the Cranford Achievement Program - for a report of a student with a gun. Following a brief investigation, a 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody by Patrolman Matthew Nazzaro.

Accoring to police, the gun was determined to be a black, semi-automatic BB gun. The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon inside of a school. The juvenile will have a Union County Family Court date this month.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gayle Carrick was contacted and confirmed that the weapon was a BB gun, but she did not have any further comment on the incident.
