Paul- I reccomend you read "Against All Enemies" by Richard Clarke. Clarke served under the Reagan administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence, Under the George H.W. Bush administration as Chairman of the Counter-terrorism Security Group, and Under the Clinton administration as National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism. He was later demoted to an advisor role at the beginning of the George W. Bush administration. If you want a non-partisan perspective of the failings with each of these administrations before and after the 9/11 attacks, this is a great read. Stating that Clinton refused to pursue Bin Laden simply isn't true at all.

The usual ignorance about Social Security. It's not broke, it's got $2.7 trillion in assets which earn interest every day. It's been in operation for more than 70 years, hasn't missed a payment in more than 70 years through wars, recessions and the economic meltdown of 2008. 401(k)s were wiped out and decimated by the economic Armageddon of 2008. The SS trust fund is made up of special issue treasury bonds just as valid as millions of treasury bonds owned by tens of millions of Americans. The only threat to SS are Gopers and corporate Democrats who have been bought off by billionaires like Pete Peterson. Just raise the cap on the SS wage tax; it's currently capped at $110,100. If the GOP gets its way and guts Medicare, then we will have about 40 million more Americans uninsured added to the 50 million already uninsured (from the US Census). You NEVER HEAR OF THESE DEFICIT VAMPIRES TALKING ABOUT GUTTING THE MILITARY, the CIA, the FBI, the NSA or our far flung military bases. Bombs are much more important than the health of senior citizens.

Obama in the 1st debate you said this.
Obama says he "suspects" that he and Romney have a similar position on Social Security. He wants to talk about Medicare, "the big driver" of deficits.
According to White House budget - 2012 SS spending = $773 Billion versus 2012 SS revenue = $635 Billion. Social security caused a $138 B deficit in this years budget
Medicare spending 2012 = $730 Billion vs medicare revenues of $203 Billion creating a $527 Billion deficit for 2012.
Together SS and Medicare had a 2012 deficit of $665 Billion
What's Obama's plan to fix this?

Spooner - the debt will grow by some $12 trillion so cutting $4 trillion is a start but thats like putting a stick of gum in a dam leak. Obama went back for more tax increases....increases that hardly dent the problem but is all part of the class warfare. Stop the fixation on small increases in tax revenues when the problem is the trillions of spending. BTW I support raising the rates on those who make over $1 million. This will generate $50 B a year. We only have to find another $1.5 Trillion to balance the budget.
BTW - did Obama take his ball and go home to cry? These programs are still running a deficit.
Since I sense you get the debt problem, are you willing to see Medicare and SS cut back to balance the budget? If not, what do you propose?

A few reasons why I won't/can't vote for Romney.
1. His name is Mitt, and his nickname is Mittens.
2. He thinks middle class families earn between 200 and 250 k per year.
3. He's a Mormon.
4. He against pro-choice. But whenever asked is never takes a position.
5. He is a liar. Claim's he will help the middle class and not the super wealthy.
6. He is a SRK, spoiled rich kid.
7. He has a $104 million IRA, a 104$ IRA, this is wrong in so many ways.

Our country had a balanced budget the last time a SRK took office, eight years later we were in our worst economic crisis since 1929, both of these guys lie, talk out of both sides of their mouths. They are only interested in the lobbyists and special interest groups, this is exactly what our founding fathers did not want, a small percentage of people controlling most the the nations wealth. Vote Republican, voting for Romney will mean you will not have to suffer the way I did and got a $15,000 bonus, think about how much taxes I paid from that bonus. Fox is a blessing to the working class Republicans to get the word out there to convert Liberals. I always tip working class Republican and liberal women generously at hotels, waitresses because they can get the country together to go Republican, this Liberal supported belief women want to work side by side with CFOs and CIOs is a myth, Romney supported women and had them in employed so that they can get home and prepare dinner for their husbands they get home from work running the business.

In 1978, Bush told the Texas Observer that Social Security would go bankrupt, bust in 10 years. He lied then and he lied in 2005 when he tried to privatize SS. The SS trust fund is invested in one of the safest investments on earth, US treasury bonds backed by the full faith and credit of the USA. Actually, Spooner, there is no requirement for him to release his taxes, so what's the real deal here? Have there been any indictments forthcoming from the IRS that would insinuate that Mr. Romney cheated on his taxes? That should not be confused with many of Obama's appointees who actually did cheat on their taxes. Have you ever heard of Tim Geithner, Treasury Secretary? You'd think a guy that Obama thought could run our finances should be able to get his own taxes right. But then again, Obama was ready to appoint Jon "I don't know what happened to billions of dollars of investor's money" Corzine to the position. Oh well, wishful thinking. Let's forget the minutiae and get to a real problem; what will happen to Big Bird?

UH O - GALLUP has Romney up by 4 - 50 to 46!!
Southern losses: The South gave Obama the least support of any region in 2008, but still split their vote evenly for Obama vs. McCain. Today, Southerners favor Romney by a 22-point margin, the largest shift of any region. Voters in the East are also less supportive, while preferences in the West and Midwest are little changed.
Young voters stick with him: Young voters were an important part of Obama's 2008 coalition, and in 2012 they continue to support him overwhelmingly, at roughly the same level as four years ago. The difficulty for Obama is that he currently has less support among each older age group, particularly those aged 30 to 49 years.
White support dwindles: Obama lost the white vote in 2008 by 12 percentage points, but that was more than offset by a 72-point lead among nonwhites. Today, Obama has a more daunting 22-point deficit among whites, while his margin over Romney among nonwhites is essentially unchanged.
Men move away: In 2008, Gallup found a 14-point swing in gender preferences for president, with women favoring Obama by a 14-point margin and men tied in their preferences for Obama vs. McCain. Today, there is a 20-point gender gap. Women's support for Obama shrank to six percentage points, while men favor Romney by 14 points.

Can you tell me chapter and verse where it describes the guidelines for funding the arts or media of any type? I didn't think so, Frank. Is it the job of the federal government to keep a standing army, Frank? Maintaining the military is the job of the government...we can debate the amount spent but not the task. On the other hand, the government has no business supporting TV programming and Big Bird, who, BTW, pulls down $315,000 a year and should receive no part of taxpayer monies. Thanks, Franks.

spooner do you remember kaybee toys? they were the second biggest toy company in america that is till bain bought them and loaded them with debt. it earned mitt and his wealthy cronies millions of dollars but the result was 50 stores across the country closing for good after decades and thousands of workers joined the bread line as their jobs were sent to china. same story for dade international, gst steel and many others and as you can see by last week what bain did to those factory workers for sensata that the firm that mitt earned his millions from are still earning big profits by putting americans on the unemployment line. republicans are voting for him because he's a successful businessman but his success was earned on the backs of the people whose lives he ruined.

Another Obama success story. More people unemployed. Millions wasted.
http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/battery-builder-a123-won-249-million-federal-grant-143806554.html
In terms of losses, A123 isn’t as bad as Solyndra. It received $249.1 million in federal funding in 2009, less than half the $535 million Solyndra received. But that doesn’t change the fact it’s now in bankruptcy.

oh bummer, what's said about that is 50% of filing taxpayers make less than $32K in AGI. That is the real problem here, not the who pays what amount in taxes, but no one seems to want to address that. And I just looked at that chart, I can't believe $112K is top 10%. Is this individual file or each return (i.e., couples count as one in this, with combined income)?
oh bummer

Phil it's a spending problem. There is only so much you can get by raising taxes on anyone. Go for it and raise taxes on $1 million. The brings in maybe $50 B a year tops. We have a $1.5 trillion annual deficit. Our government both sides has let spending get out of control and with it the debt.
In 2008 spending was $2.9 T
In 2012 spending was $3.6 T
Spending went up $700 B a year with no way to pay for it.

It's heartening to see the polls swinging toward Romney. At least he appears to value individual liberty, personal industry and private property rights.

How exactly did Mittens get a $102 million IRA legally?? By law you can only contribute 30k per year. Add in his $400 million in Swiss bank accounts and unwillingness to release is tax returns that equals tax evading elitist crook to me, is this a guy (used loosely) we want as our president. I know the billionaires do.

7:38 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Maybe you better check with a financial adviser. I started my IRA AKA a SEP with $150K. Before the end of the year I will be putting in another $100K. I'll bet he is calling it an IRA because people don't know what a SEP is. A SEP is an IRA for corp business owners. You are limited to in a percentage of you net worth.

The worst part of the debate is coming on to Patch the next day and reading all of these moronic comments from one-sided nitwits. Now we even have to read them before the debate. Thanks Patch. At least let's go back to local politics and give us something to really laugh about.

I saw some of you say the moderator has little say in what the questions are. BUT she selects which of those submitted is asked. As I said before, the only "news" channel that is worse than CNN is MSNBC. Neither has any journalists working for them. I also see where some still want Romney's tax returns. After the VP debate, the question should be: Is Joe Biden mentally fit to be "a heartbeat away" from the presidency? It is obvious he has some form of mental disease, either early stages of dementia or Alzheimers'. I am not kidding either!!

I love this, and this was used on Sarah Palin, good call on using this same formula on Biden, but you have to be stronger than that and attack Liberals on the whole, we need to make the entire country RED, and Liberals are in the way, you cannot expect Corporations to grow if you have blue states.
We need to win the fight on terrorism and that is not just the extremists, it also includes Liberals, they are in the way, and Americans should be driving foreign cars, I am yet to see any good American cars, I agree with Romney let the industry file bankruptcy, everyone was buying cheap Toyota cars, Toyota was the number 1 selling car for the working class when Obama bailed out the American car industry.
Vote Romney, vote for the country to rise again and let us not have any more blue states.

Vampires, mummies the Tea Party, and the Holy Ghost, these are the things that frighten me the most! Today’s Republican Party is not the same republican party of Ronald Regan or even George Bush! In the contrary today’s Republican Party has been (for lack of a better word) highjacked by an extreme right wing radical element we refer to as the “Tea Party.” If Mitt Romney is elected these people will alter your life in a way you never thought imaginable. For example they want to replace Medicare with a voucher system, privatize Social Security, repeal National Health Insurance and eliminate your home property tax deduction while giving the wealthy 5% more tax cuts. The choice is yours on Election Day, Vote reason NOT color.

OBAMA FAILED

Is this what you mean by cleaned up? F A I L U R E!!!!
OBAMA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS RECORD OF FAILURE
I am often reminded of what Obama said at the 2008 DNC: “If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things.” Every day, his campaign is making it smaller and smaller, and the President’s poll numbers keep dropping and dropping.
25 million unemployed
$7 Trillion in new debt.
$1 Trillion in WELFARE SPENDING
47 million on food stamps
$1.5 Trillion budget deficits
$500 Billion in UNPAID Medicare spending
$500 Billion in UNPAID Social Security Tax cuts

Stop it jerseyswamps, you are muddying the waters. FlippyFlop above must be right because Obama told us that Romney is against mammograms for women. Obama told us Romney wants to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood where women can get mammograms (actually, P.P. is the biggest abortion provider in the U.S.)...Oh, wait, Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms. I can't believe it; Obama lied again...and again...and again...

8:33 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2012
OBAMA was voted most likely to get high and lie.
As a high school kid, Obama wrote, he would smoke “in a white classmate’s sparkling new van,” he would smoke “in the dorm room of some brother” and he would smoke “on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids.”
He would smoke it here and there. He would smoke it anywhere.
Parents - is the the type of person you would allow to hang out with your kids in our great BRICK schools?

Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and Russia endorse Obama......
I wonder why....
OBAMA is weak on defense
OBAMA allows AMERICANS to get killed
OBAMA wants to gut the military and make us even weaker
Remember OBAMA told Russia he would weaken US further after the election
Don't allow OBAMA to weaken AMERICA any more or GUT the military
The exchange:
President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.
President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…
President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

OBAMA FAILED! Is that Mister, Miss. or Mrs. Obama Failed? When an individual can’t state what he /she thinks without using a moniker or pseudo name that right there tells me something about the person. Chances are these individuals are either wanted by the police; maybe they owe child support of have a slew of motor vehicle violations or, they do not want others to know who they are or they are paranoid schizophrenics! Then, when I critique their posting I realize that their material is straight from Fox 5 news & that these individuals have no thoughts of their own. And this is exactly the kind of individuals who (if they are eligible to vote) will vote for Romney.
