Special Delivery! Cranford Police Help Deliver Baby In Front Seat Of Car
On Aug. 3, Cranford Police Officer Matthew Nazzaro delivered a baby boy in a parking lot of the Butcher Block, 209 Centennial Ave. Baby Adam Ramos and family were transported to St. Barnabas Medical Center afterward. Nazzaro was assisted by Assisted by Sgt. Frank Williams, and Officers Robert Jordan and Michael Dubitsky.
Westfield Olympian Expelled After Positive Drug Test
U.S. Judoka Nicholas Delpopolo, 23, was expelled from the Olympic games after testing positive for marijuana, it was announced Monday. As a result, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualifed Delpopolo's result from the men's 73 kg Judo event. The Delpopolo family released a statement saying they are grateful for the support of the community.
Broken Utility Poll Crushes Car, Knocks Out Power in Springfield
The Troy Village Apartment houses in Springfield were without power and a car was crushed a domino-like series of events on Tuesday, August 7. A tree landed on a nearby power line, which subsequently pulled down a utility poll, which in turn crashed into a parked car. No one was hurt in the incident.
Westfield Discusses State Pension Issue
At Tuesday night's meeting of the Westfield Town Council, the public and the council discussed at length the findings of a New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller pension report. Former Councilman Sal Caruana, wishing to clarify and expand on statements he made at the meeting, sent a letter to the editor to Patch Wednesday morning.
Summit Man, 51, Indicted on Child Sex Abuse Charges
Early this week, authorities announced that Jose Jimenez, 51, formerly of Summit, was indicted on August 3, on charges of first degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second degree sexual assault and second degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to the county prosecutor's office. Jimenez could face a maximum of over 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Summit's National Night Out Brings PD to the People (Video)
The children of Summit and their families had a chance to get up close and personal with construction vehicles, fire engines and the officers of the Summit Police Department. Several community groups including the Summit Free Public Library, the Summit Elks, and Overlook Medical Center all had a hand in making this a special event.

Springfield also hosted Union County's National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 7. Law enforcement and public safety agencies from Springfield and surrounding towns displayed their top gear for the families in attendance. Union County employees offered refreshments and prizes sponsored by local businesses.
Clark School District Hires Seven New Teachers
A total of seven new teachers were appointed to both maternity leave replacement positions as well as tenure track positions at the Clark Board of Education Meeting this past Tuesday evening.
Cats Saved From Basement Fire in Fanwood
On Tuesday, the Fanwood Fire Department rescued two cats from a home in Fanwood experiencing a fire in the basement. After the Rescue Squad administered oxygen, the cats seemed to be alright. Local neighbors took them to the vet to ensure their safety.
