County Police Blotter: Police Make Drug Arrest While Working Undercover

The following information was obtained by the County Of Union. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Union County Police arrested an Elizabeth woman on Wednesday after allegedly finding crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a routine traffic stop.

County Police said that they arrested 44-year-old Cheryl Williams at approximately 1:55 p.m. while working in an undercover capacity.

At the time, an unmarked police cruiser observed a motor vehicle violation on Alina Street in Elizabeth. There were three individuals in the vehicle.

Two detectives on duty approached and addressed the driver. During the exchange they immediately observed drug paraphernalia on the floor of the back seat of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed suspected crack cocaine near the paraphernalia.

Williams was arrested and transported to Union County Police Headquarters where she was processed for the following charges: possession of crack cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was photographed and finger-printed was released on her own recognizance pending a hearing in Superior Court.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a motor vehicle summons and, along with a secondary passenger, was released at the scene. The vehicle was impounded.

Is this the Elizabeth Patch? Will someone wake up the Cranford Patch editor?

It's a county report. Last time I checked, Elizabeth, like Cranford, was in Union county.

This is the Cranford Patch, not the Union County patch. My point is that the reporting of any timely Cranford content had been severely lacking. There is very little to no coverage of the Cranford government meetings, community, school or athletic events. Anyone could dial-in this article to fill space.

For what it's worth, I substantially agree with the prior comment. This forum is becoming another version of Cranford Talk, which I completely abandoned a year or so ago because of its constant drumbeat of vulgar, immature and bullying posts. It just wasn't worth wading through the filth and childish behavior for the occasional piece of local news or useful insight. Now, Cranford Patch is degrading into something similar. It seems like a year ago there was a lot more timely local news, as well as historical and cultural information about our town.

Furthermore, a number of recent articles concern polarizing issues -- having little directly to do with local-community affairs, and for which there are numerous other venues -- which seem to invite the kind of trash talk becoming so prevalent here. A handful of far right and far left amateur pundits have taken to the site to pound away at each other. A sort of Gresham's Law -- where bad money drives out good -- seems now to be in force.
