Where's Your Union County 'Staycation' Destination?
You have some time off, but don't want to jump on a plane or pack the car. So what do you do when you're looking for fun close to home?
Everyone loves vacation, but not everyone has the time — or the cash — to take a week off and head for some far-flung location. So when you have the chance to stick close to home, what do you do to have some fun without having to fill up the tank?
Some families check into a local hotel for a room-service "staycation" full of in-room movies and a lot of time in the pool. Other folks like to spend the morning puttering around the house and taking care of all the little jobs that have been piling up and then spend the afternoon going to an amusement park, a nature preserve or a bowling alley before heading off for dinner and a movie.
Or maybe you're in the mood to ditch the kids and go for a little pampering, so you head out for a day of spa treatments and a night on the town.
So this week, we've given you some ideas of places that might make perfect "staycation" destinations. We don't have all the answers, so we use the "other" category in our county-wide poll and then let us know in the comment sections where you will you could be found when you want to blow off some steam.
Check back throughout the week and stay tuned for the final results to be posted on Friday.

I spent 4-5 hours at the Trailside Nature Center with a class of 2nd graders last fall — walking the trails with a naturalist, watching a slide show, touring the exhibits, playing in the playground, picnicking on the grounds. The kids LOVED it!

Union County unfortunately is not my favorite, but my favorite place in Union County would have to be Johnston Drive, off of Bonnie Burn rd. I'm not sure if it's Watchung, Berkley, or Scotchplains.

Hi Deven! Johnston Drive is one of my favorite Union County landmarks too (it runs from Scotch Plains to Watchung). You might enjoy this article about the history and legends surrounding Johnston Drive, published last Halloween: http://scotchplains.patch.com/articles/theghostsofunioncounty-13bumpsfor13witches

KJS,
We're trying to ask people where they go locally. As mentioned in the story, some families check into a motel to have room-service, let someone else make the bed and swim in the pool.
Thanks for the questions and let us know what you like to do in Union County.

To me a staycation is the Jersey Shore rather than Florida or Bahamas. Day trips within driving distance...
