BluePrint {Cleanse} Day 3, The Final Installment

Holy day 3! This has been amazing. I am officially a cleanse addict. I. Feel. Phenomenal.

Today, I told anyone who would sit still long enough to listen to me about the cleanse and how great I feel. I was getting my blonde on over at Charles Studio (already one of my happiest places on earth) and I proudly toted my BPC cooler with juices #2, 3, and 4, just in case the heavenly head massage went on a little longer than anticipated. (Seriously, have you guys been to Charles Studio? Aside from the fact that I get the world's best cut and color there - I prefer it to Fekkai and several other NYC hot spots - the head massages are like nothing you've ever felt in your life. I even got Mike to convert to CS from his old timey barber!)

Anyway, I digress (this seems to be happening a lot today. I think it's all that extra energy!)... If I caught anyone glancing at my pretty little bottle for more than half a second, I launched into an explanation of the cleanse, my doubts yesterday, and my totally unexpected results today. I'm pretty sure they thought I was nuts. (The other clients, that is. Owners Charles and Anne are friends of mine. They already know I'm a little nuts.) I simply couldn't help myself. I have more energy than I know what to do with, and I feel lighter, happier, and overall brighter (if that's possible?).

I have lost 6 pounds, and while I know it won't stay off, it feels great. This is such a great way to renew yourself and recharge your batteries. A perfect kick start to the summer. I will definitely be thinking more about how I'm feeding my body. That's not to say I am going to stick to an all vegan, raw, or organic diet (trust me, I still want that grilled cheese more than Jessica Simpson wanted that baby out of her) but I will definitely think a little longer before shoveling whatever is on the counter or on Jack's plate into my mouth. I said it yesterday, but I'll say it again: it shocks me how many times a day I involuntarily go to eat something. It's startling.

So in closing, I'd like to present you with a short list of my Pros and Cons of embarking on the BluePrint Cleanse:

Pros:
- Fewer dishes to do.
- Record low grocery bills.
- No longer have to think about what you're going to eat for lunch, dinner, etc.  No counting calories. BluePrint thinks. You drink.
- Temporary(?) weight loss.
- Awesome feeling of accomplishment and discipline.

Cons:
- You will see the inside of every public restroom you can find. You're drinking liquids. A lot of liquids.
- Sometimes you miss the act of chewing. Not eating, just putting something solid in your mouth and chewing.
- It's kind of a bummer when you're in a social setting. No one likes to be that person chowing down on their burrito while you're sipping beet juice.  And vice versa.

Thank you again to everyone who reached out and offered their words of advice or motivation. I'm thrilled so many of you have been inspired to try this, and I can now say for sure that I wholeheartedly recommend it.

One last thing. As a token of my appreciation for my sons for putting up with me on Day 1 (yes, I can admit it now. I was cranky) I'd like to buy them this special gift. What do you think?

Well, as someone who thinks you have the most beautiful children on the planet! Buy them anything they want!! (Remember, I was going to run away with Jack at the Sreet Fair? :) Congrats on the cleanse- you are clearly stronger than I am.

The placebo effect can be very powerful, but there isn't any science behind any of these "cleanses" (unless it's the science of neuroticism).

Since you asked, I think turning your sons into walking billboards touting your petty dietary "triumph" is a bit narcissistic and a pretty poor way to make amends for your admitted bad behaviour. Do you really want to teach them that buying a cheap t-shirt is the same as making a heartfelt apolgy, a commitment to do better and to make amends?

BTW, you didn't actually 'save' any money on groceries (see your prior post) since you spent $105 (juice/shipping) for three days worth of liquid calories for ONE person. For compairson, mother receiveing food stamps (maybe trying to raise two beautiful boys just like yours) has to make that same $105 dollars last for 23 days. Every ten weeks (or so) you spend enough on your HAIR (cut/color/tip about $175 per Charles Salon website) to fund a whole FARM for an entire impoverished family (see Heifer.org "gardener's gift backet").

Just some 'food' for thought.

I think it's great that Ellie embarked on this liquid diet for three days. But what amazes me is that so few people, it seems, are aware of the wisdom of the ancients as the basis for many contemporary products and services. The dietary and fasting laws of ancient religions have much to offer in both physical and spiritual benefits.

Thank you, Tom. And you're absolutely right. The historical origins of the cleanse is not lost on me. Whether or not it had any physical "cleansing" properties is certainly up for debate, but the positive effect it had on me (placebo or otherwise) was profound.
