The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders announces that its next mobile paper-shredding program for personal documents will be available on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Union County Vo-Tech in Scotch Plains, 1776 Raritan Rd, Scotch Plains. NEXCUT Shredding of Teaneck will be shredding documents at the site from 9 am to 1 pm, rain or shine. The shredding event will end before 1 pm if the shredding truck reaches capacity.
“Union County’s mobile document-shredding service helps residents fight identity theft and eliminate clutter in their homes,” said Freeholder Christopher Hudak, liaison to the Solid Waste Advisory Council. “It is a cost-effective way to assist our recycling efforts and it ties in with Union County’s other Go Green Initiatives.”
All Union County residents are eligible to use the paper-shredding service. In an effort to accommodate everyone, there is a limit of four, 10-pound bags or boxes per person. Documents should not be bound. Please remove plastic binders and paperclips. Paper that is wet/damp will not be accepted. Residents should continue to recycle non-confidential papers and magazines with their municipal recycling program.
Documents are put into 96-gallon containers provided by the shredding company. The items are then dumped onto a conveyor belt and shredded on site. Participants are welcome to view the shredding process via a closed-circuit television. The shredded documents are then recycled, shipped to paper mills and used as pulp. The next shredding event will take place Friday, April 27, 2012 at Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield.

Union County Vocational Technical Schools offer a variety of educational services to area residents on its Scotch Plains Campus. Programs and schools are highlighted below.
The Academy for Allied Health Services is an initiative that combines the resources of the district, Union County College, Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Students enrolled in this grade 9 - 12 full-time program are prepared to become future doctors, nurses, medical technicians and health care managers.
At The Academy for Information Technology, high school students with an interest in computer science and information technology are enrolled in a college-level technical training program in computer science and a full regimen of honors-level academic classes.
The Magnet High School features competitive and specialized programs. Students enroll in a comprehensive course of study in engineering, as well as mathematics, science and technology.
The Academy for Performing Arts combines an intensive study program in theatre arts and dance with a rigorous academic curriculum. The program culminates with a senior year at Kean University, where students take a full freshmen college course load that includes a concentration as a performing arts major.
UC-Tech offers students a four-year full-time program that combines high school academics with access to the career or technical training program of their choice. Program include automotive technology, building trades, communication, public safety, culinary arts and cosmetology.
Shared-Time is a district program that offers students the opportunity to attend a variety of regular education and self-contained special education programs on a half-time basis. Students typically attend high school and then spend either the morning or afternoon on the Scotch Plains campus for vocational-technical specialization training.
Adult High School is for adults without a high school diploma who seek to obtain one. This program is available at the Scotch Plains campus, as well as in satellite locations in Plainfield and Elizabeth.
