Project Home of Cranford’s Spring 2024 Town Wide Garage Sale is scheduled for Saturday April 27, 2024 Rain or Shine. 
Those who register will have the address of their sale and a brief description of what they are selling included on the listing that will be posted on the Project Home website and on Facebook for shoppers looking to find sale locations. On-line registration will be open through Tuesday April 23.
To participate in the Town Wide Garage Sale registration is required, to register go to the Project Home of Cranford website <a href="https://www.projecthomeofcranford.org" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.projecthomeofcranford.org</a>, fundraisers. Only the address of the sale and highlights of what the seller is offering for sale will be posted for shoppers to see. The complete listing will be posted the evening of April 26.
It is through fundraisers like the Town Wide Garage Sale that we as a community are able to lend a hand to those in need when unexpected financial crisis impacts our neighbors. 
For over 30 years Project Home of Cranford, a 501(c)3 charity has been working through Cranford Family Care to keep Cranford families in crisis in their homes. The Cranford YMCA, a partnership between the Township of Cranford and the Westfield Area YMCA, is thrilled to announce its grand opening week which will culminate in an Open House event on April 27, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Festivities will kick off with a ribbon cutting on April 23, including the unveiling of the renovated main locker rooms and changing areas, which were the final pieces in the transformation of the facility’s interior.
Throughout the week, the Cranford YMCA will offer special perks for members and those who join, as well as giveaways and other activities. Anyone is welcome to come take a tour of the facility and receive a “Try the Y” pass for 7-day access to the facility for free.
The community is invited to the free Open House on April 27, which will be a fun-filled celebration for all ages, featuring carnival games in the pool, arts &amp; crafts, refreshments, prizes, and more. It’s a great opportunity for families, seniors, and adults to explore the fresh facility and discover the wide range of programs and services offered by the Cranford YMCA.
The new Cranford YMCA is located at 401 Centennial Avenue, the site of the former Cranford Pool and Fitness Center. Significant improvements include new pool filtration, chemical feed, pump, and UV systems, as well as renovated main locker rooms, a new multipurpose space, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Mount St. Dominic Academy

The MSDA Meghan Doyle '05K celebrating the life of Meghan Doyle, a 2005 graduate of MSDA – is returning for its 10th year! Meghan's dream was to become more involved with her alma mater and to run a 5K. This race honors her memory and supports families who want to offer their daughters a Mount St. Dominic Academy education. Since 2015, this event has raised over $250,000 for a financial aid program in Meghan Doyle's memory. Sign up to enjoy a day of running, fun, and community spirit, all in support of a great cause. 

There are three ways to participate:
Live '05K: Participate in the live on-campus '05K race. Cash awards will be given to the top female and male runners, and awards will be presented to the top three runners in each age group.
Fun Run: Kids ages 10 and under are invited to participate in the Fun Run, starting at 9 am. There's no registration fee for this race, so sign them up on the Registration page and let them join in the fun!
Virtual '05K: Can't make it to the live race? Run the Virtual MSDA Meghan Doyle '05K anytime between May 4 and May 10, in the location of your choice. All virtual participants will receive a bib number and are encouraged to share their photos on social media using #MSDA05K.

Come to Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 4, 2024 
Amateur Astronomers, Inc. (AAI), the North Jersey Astronomical Group (NJAG), and Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School will sponsor Astronomy Day entitled "The Science of Star Wars" at Trailside Nature and Science Center in Mountainside NJ 07092 from 12-4 pm and at William Miller Sperry Observatory on the campus of Union College in Cranford NJ 07016 from 7:30 pm to 10:30pm. Both sessions are free to the public with free parking. All you need is a curiosity about the Universe to enter. Children will enjoy hands-on Astronomy activities in the afternoon at Trailside Nature and Science Center. Adults and children will enjoy the night activities at Sperry Observatory. All are welcome to come and enjoy learning about our amazing world. Special topics will include the Exoplanets, Robots, and Star Wars: Fact or Fiction. Also included in the afternoon will be robotics demonstrations, meteorites and geology information, and fun and easy to understand science demonstrations. No preregistration necessary. 
Both programs are rain or shine. 
With the two large telescopes housed in the William Miller Sperry Observatory at the Cranford campus of Union College (UC), as well as the telescope at AAI’s Barry Malpas Observatory at Jenny Jump State Park (a dark-sky location near Hope, NJ), AAI members and the public enjoy countless opportunities to expand their horizons in exploring astronomy. Celebrating its 75th year, AAI continues to offer many free programs to the public, not only at Sperry, but also at schools, libraries, street fairs, and other venues promoting the hobby and science of 
astronomy. Our telescopes at Sperry are open to the public on Fridays from 7:30 pm -10:30 pm (skies permitting). Regardless of viewing conditions, at 8:30 pm we offer a presentation for general audiences on an astronomy topic. Youth groups, scout troops and small private groups can arrange for special programs at 7:00 pm on most Fridays. AAI also offers safe solar viewing in the summer on most Saturdays (from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm) at Union County’s Trailside Nature and Science Center at Watchung Reservation (weather cancellations posted on the AAI website or by calling Trailside) and at the Turtle Back Zoo on the select dates. 
From September through May, on the third Friday of each month, AAI holds its General Membership Meetings on the UC Cranford campus in the Roy Smith Theater. The Main Lecture Series with a professional astronomer begins at 8 pm. A list of speakers, locations, and subjects are posted on AAI’s website. After the presentation and a brief business meeting, members and guests, along with the guest speaker, will retire to the Observatory for complimentary light refreshments. North Jersey Astronomical Group's website (NJAG) is www.njastro.org. An astronomy club of almost 100 stargazers interested in all aspects of the night sky, has a 14 inch scope. Since 1981, the NJAG has sponsored many activities for the public in Northern New Jersey, including weekly Telescope Nights and a monthly lecture series in the spring and fall plus special events. Tens of thousands of people have discovered the wonders of the Universe through our telescopes!
The expanded visibility at the UACNJ dark-sky observatory at Jenny Jump State Forest in Hope NJ is well worth the drive. See UACNJ.org for details and directions. AAI owns and operates a state of the art 14-inch telescope there for its members to use. NJAG also maintains a 14 inch telescope. Open for public viewing, the club recommends that you arrive in daylight. If you arrive after dark, courtesy dictates that you turn off your headlights (and all other "white” lights) so as not to ruin the night-vision of those already set up for observing. In 2002, Vienna released her debut album Waking Hour, landing her on NPR’s Weekend Edition, The Late Show with David Letterman, and the top of Amazon’s music charts. Four more albums followed, most recently Aims in 2013, which became the first album to win four Independent Music Awards. She also composed the music for The Fourth Messenger by playwright Tanya Shaffer, which premiered in 2013 and was a featured production in the 2017 New York Musical Theater Festival.&nbsp;
Together with Vienna’s captivating live performances and thoughtful online presence, her work has built a devoted following across generations and continents.Still, other pursuits have always beckoned. A computer science major before she was a recording artist, Vienna is a nerd at heart, as comfortable in spreadsheets as the spotlight. She returned to academia in 2010 to study environmental sustainability, which led to a new career working on climate change, energy and waste issues. She also became a bonus parent to her partner’s two kids, and in early 2020 welcomed a newborn addition to the family - just in time for pandemic lockdown.
In 2022, she launched a “music x climate action” community on Patreon, combining monthly livestream shows and recording studio updates with Zoom climate action sessions, as well as working one-on-one with patrons on their own climate projects. On the road, she’s started hosting workshops between concerts, bringing members of her audience together to share knowledge and take real steps for climate - events that participants have described as “life-changing,” “rocket fuel,” and “the perfect antidote to despair.”The long-distance phase is over. Now it’s time for communion - and moving forward. Opening act&nbsp;Jean Rohe writes one-of-a-kind narrative songs, concerned as much with the interior lives of her narrators as with the wider world outside them. Jean recently won the 2022 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk songwriting contest with her deeply personal and timely song “Animal”. Her latest full-length record as a bandleader, Sisterly, produced by longtime collaborator Liam Robinson, won best Adult Contemporary Album at the Independent Music Awards in 2019.A prolific songwriter, Jean is perhaps best known for her video single, “National Anthem: Arise! Arise!” an aspirational alternative national anthem performed live with brass ensemble and choir, which has now been covered hundreds of times by soloists and choirs across the US. Her co-write with Liam Robinson, “The Longest Winter” was featured on the 2020 Hadestown cast holiday album. Her award-winning 2013 debut release, Jean Rohe &amp; The End of the World Show, was hailed by an Elmore Magazine reviewer as “enchanting” and “remarkable in so many ways I can think of no comparison.”
