Cranford's Long-Time Engineer Celebrates 95th Birthday

Gregory Sgroi served as the town's engineer from 1973-1984.

Cranford's long-time engineer, who was credited with alleviating the town's chronic flooding issues, celebrated his 95th birthday last weekend, according to NJ.com.

Gregory Sgroi, who served as Cranford's town engineer from 1973-1984, celebrated the milestone on Aug. 24 at the Roselle Golf Club surrounded by 70 friends and family.

Sgroi stemmed ongoing flooding issues by having the Rahway River dredged annually. He was recognized for his achievement in 2008 when a pumping station in town was named for him.
