Affinity Credit Union Sponsors Rutgers 11th Annual 5k Big Chill Charity Run!

On December 8, Affinity Federal Credit Union was one of the many sponsors of Rutgers University Annual Big Chill 5K race. Participants were asked to bring a new toy to be donated to a child, instead of a standard entrance fee.  This year, over 9,000 toys were donated and over 400 coats will be able to purchased for the children.

All donated toys were wrapped by hundreds of volunteers and distributed to different charities that serve children's needs. The American Red Cross, Children’s Specialized Hospital, and the New Brunswick Housing Authority have been among the recipients in past years. 

The Big Chill has become one of the largest run/walk 5ks in New Jersey and is considered by many to be one of the best conducted events in the tri-state area.  What makes this charity event so successful is the outpouring of support from University students and residents from all over New Jersey who get up early on a cold December morning to run or walk through the streets of New Brunswick to help children have a good holiday. Rutgers students find money in their tight budgets to buy a toy for a child who might otherwise go through the holiday season empty handed.
