The club was formed to offer competitive golf events and, through its membership affiliation with the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), provide members with a USGA handicap and educate golfers on the Rules of Golf. The MGA issues updated handicaps twice per month from April 1 through October 31. The MGA also offers certain sponsored tournament competitions and rules seminars.

During each season the CGC offers a variety of tournaments on weekend dates (primarily Saturdays, every two weeks) from March until late-October at golf courses throughout New Jersey and including certain courses located in Pennsylvania and New York.

Tournaments featured on the "CGC Tour" each season are the Club Championship Tournament competed at match play, by flights, a Member-Member match play tournament and a 36-hole Member-Member stroke play event. The club also offers a Winter Tour and a Fall Tour to provide competitive golf throughout the calendar year, weather permitting.

As part of its Silver Anniversary season-long celebration, the Cranford Golf Club is now offering a special New Member rate of $75 for the 2014 season until April 30 (a $25 savings).
