Spring Awakening at CDC Theatre

Tickets are going fast for CDC Theatre’s production of   Spring Awakening. The winner of eight Tony Awards in 2006, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book,   Spring Awakening has music by Duncan Sheik and Book and Lyrics by Steven Sater.

“Musically, the show is an intense and intricate ensemble piece,” as described by Jack Bender, the shows Musical Director, “and each cast member sings it beautifully. The orchestration is like a strong alternative rock band with a string quartet overlay. Megan Ferentinos, our choreographer, interprets the powerful themes though modern dance and she is one of my favorite choreographers to work with.”

Samantha Koenig will perform the role of Wendla and first appeared at CDC Theatre as a member of the cast of “Children of Eden” in 2006.  “This is a very powerful show with a very current message: Don’t ignore how quickly adolescents grow-up. It’s a challenging show, both musically and dramatically, but as a performer, this is a dream show. If you are looking to grow as a performer, this is a show to do.  The shared experience of coming of age and trying to deal with the pressures of life are things every audience can relate to.”

In his first appearance at CDC is Chris Frazier in the role of Georg.  “I saw this show on Broadway when I was a sophomore in high school and fell in love with the strong, driving music. I think it’s brilliant.” Though new to CDC, Mr. Fraser has taken part in the Paper Mill Summer Conservatory Program, the Disney College program and has appeared at The Growing Stage Theatre, as Horton in Seussical, the Musical and at Montclair Operetta Club .
