WESTFIELD AREA Y AND JERSEY MIKE’S SUBS TEAM UP FOR A “DAY OF GIVING”

The Westfield Area Y is joining forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs on East Broad Street in Westfield for the 4th Annual March “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign. The campaign culminates in the Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 26th.  On that day, our local Jersey Mike’s will donate 100 percent of the day’s sales to the Westfield Area Y’s Strong Kids Campaign. Jersey Mike’s from around the country will participate in the month of giving with proceeds benefiting over 100 different charities.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as one of the partners from around the country and very thankful and appreciative of Jersey Mike’s generosity to the Strong Kids Campaign,” stated Bonnie Cohen, Westfield Area Y Communications/Development Director.

Jersey Mike’s, a fast-casual sub sandwich franchise with more than 1,300 stores open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support.  Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s serves authentic East Coast-style subs on fresh baked bread – the same recipe it started with over 50 years ago.  The company’s mission is to bring its customers the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to the communities in which it operates.

Last year’s Month of Giving campaign raised nearly $1.7 million for 86 different charities nationwide. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised nearly $7.5 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 600,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“I would like to extend a personal invitation to come in and enjoy a Jersey Mike’s sub during our Month of Giving,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO, who started the company when he was only 17 years old.  “This year we hope to raise more than $2 million to support these local causes so we can bring hope to all those involved with charities and make a difference in people’s lives.”

Thanks to the Westfield Area Y Strong Kids Campaign, no one who lives or works in Westfield, Cranford, Garwood or Mountainside and is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship is turned away for inability to pay.  Approximately 85% of the assistance enables children to attend Y child care and summer camp programs.  For more information, please visit www.westfieldynj.org.
