Church Women Will Celebrate World Community Day

The celebration will take place at St. Mark AME Church in Cranford on Nov. 2.

Church Women United of Cranford will celebrate World Community Day this year on Nov. 2 at St. Mark AME Church, 34 High St., Cranford.

The theme for the event is “Abiding in Community.” It is interpreted as to remain, stay, sustain and withstand, to reach out, and within to bring the message of love, justice and cooperation ecumenically. the Church Women will welcome guest speaker Phyllis Dunlop, a member of the Executive Board of the Community Food Bank of NJ in Hillside and congregant of First Presbyterian Church of Cranford. Lois Hasselman, of Garwood and Calvary Lutheran Church, will receive the Valiant Woman Award for her outstanding contributions of service to her church and community.

Refreshments will be served from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 10 a.m. In line with the theme of sustaining the community, all attendees are asked to bring any non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Food Bank.

The group invites local congregations to join in this celebration that occurs once a year on the first Friday in November.
