County Crews Continue Tree Cleanup in Cranford

A County public works crew was in Cranford this week taking care of a downed tree near the municipal building.

Workers from the Union County Public Works shade tree division were out clearing up remnants from Superstorm Sandy on Wednesday afternoon. About half a dozen workers were hauling away tree trunks that were sitting on county land near the grounds of the Cranford Historical Society.

A crew member chainsawed his way through a trunk while others helped maneuver other large pieces onto a truck. The crew was making the rounds through Union County this week, just a couple of months since the storm wrecked havoc on swaths of North Jersey.

"It's been non-stop [storm cleanup] ever since," one worker said about the efforts. Workers were coming from Plainfield, with another stop in Kenilworth and final drop off in Springfield.

Tree crew for county doing a great job , they deserve a raise instead of dead weight up top getting 2 percent on $120,000 a year for doing nothing !!

Wow that about sums it up. Its a shame these hard working guys get no raises yet have to endure year after year in property tax increases. Its time for a revolution. Enough with catered freeholder meetings and 50k hybri trucks. The little guy gets screwed at the county constantly unless you have the right last name. Its all about who u know and who you...... Well tou know the rest. God bless the working man.

It is so sad no raise everything going up and upper management tells us we will look bad to the public if we get a raise and then they turn around and vote themselves a raise .

It's hard to know which is more wasteful: (1) government landscaping or (2) overpriced landscaping contracts awarded to relatives and friends of government officials. This work is necessary, but what does it cost, and could it be done at a lower price? I don't begrudge any working man his job or fair pay, but when I'm on the hook for the bill as the taxpayer and all I hear is that the government is borrowing money to pay for everything, you'll have to understand why this is a sensitive issue.

The county cant pay these guys, but they can go into the catering business. And while we are discussing the golf course , did they ever here of a timer for the lights on the drivin range. Those lights, and theres plenty of them stay on all night. I thought the county was going green. Yeah green as in the money they take from the taxpayera to support there friends business ventures. Shut the damn lights.
