Photo Release: Dreyers Claims Century Farm Award

Honored by the N.J. Agricultural Society.

Dreyer Farms of Cranford was awarded the 2011 Century Farm Award by the New Jersey Agricultural Society at the Society's annual dinner gala on March 26 in Monroe Township.

The Century Farm Award is presented to a New Jersey farm that has been in the same family and operational for at least 100 years.

Dreyer Farms was started by brothers Gustav and Henry Dreyer in 1904, who would pick their crops, load it on a truck and drive it to the major produce markets in Elizabeth or Newark.  In 1949, Henry's daughter-in-law, Henrietta, opened the roadside market.  That same building, plus a few additions, houses the family business today. Today, Henry Jr. and his brother, John run the market, which sells their home-grown flowers, plants and produce.
