Students Create Hanukkah Display at Cranford Temple

When you enter the Temple Beth El Mekor Chayim lobby you're greated by a display of Hanukkah menorahs. The display is remarkable in that the menorahs come in various colors and shapes, and all bear the mark of childhood creativity.

Students in the temple's religious school have created about a dozen menorahs that either directly resemble or invoke the essence of actual Hanukkah menorahs, one of the essential ingredients to celebrating the festival of lights. Tree limbs, Legos, Ice Cream cones, are just a few of the representations on display.

The temple which serves about 275 families from Westfield, Roselle, Linden and Clark will host a candle lighting today at 4:12p.m. Services are tomorrow at 9:30a.m. For more information, check out the temple calendar. According to Susan B. Lemerman, executive director of the synagogue, about 40 kids are enrolled in the school, which is under the direction of Tamara Ruben.

This year Hanukkah runs from Saturday, Dec. 8 to Sunday evening on Dec. 16. A public menorah lighting ceremony in Cranford is planned for next week.
