The Weekender: Just Sing, Sing a Song!

Music fills the air this weekend and beyond as Union County comes alive with the sound of music. The choices vary from a delightful duet to the music of the movies with something for everyone.

Friedrich Nietzsche once said “Without music, life would be a mistake.” There is no mistaking that this weekend is filled with beautiful music in Union County. You can listen to a free concert by Mezzo Soprano Kathryn Krasovec or stop by and enjoy Madame Pat Tandy perform at the Salem Roadhouse Café. Reeves-Reed Arboretum is presenting Marquee Melodies: The Music of the Movies offering an opportunity for a sing-along.

and NJ Jazz Society is co-sponsoring Jazz on the Terrace featuring Laura Hull & Her Jazz Gems. Performances from Marquee Melodies: The Music of the Movies will be an opus of popular songs from classic films. This is an outdoor concert so bring a blanket or a lawn chair. $20.00/non-members-$15.00/members – 7 p.m. – Summit


The Salem Roadhouse Café presents “Madame” Pat Tandy and proceeds from this event benefit the Eastern Union County YWCA’S Domestic Violence Programs. Admission price includes hot/cold snacks, assorted beverages, gourmet coffees/teas and desserts.  $15.00/general admission - $10.00/students – 8 p.m. – Union

Rockn’ Joe presents the smooth sounds of the duet Sarah and Joan. This free event is open to all and is a great relaxing way to start your evening.  Free – 6 p.m. – Union


The First Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth presents Mezzo Soprano Kathryn Krasovec. This program will include opera, art songs, musical theater and much more. Donation: $5.00/person – 3 p.m. - Elizabeth


The Union County Summer Arts Festival hosts its 52nd Summer of Music on Wednesday evenings. On Aug. 15, JoBonnano & The Godsons will perform at Oak Ridge Park.  Free – 7:30 p.m. - Clark
