If you're not afraid of a little cold weather (say, somewhere in the low 30s) and you're thinking about taking the train into New York for your New Year's Eve party, then New Jersey Transit and PATH trains are there to get you out of New Jersey, and back to Cranford when all your partying is finished in those small hours of Tuesday morning.
Of course, you can always stay local and catch a cab home.
Just remember, state law enforcement officials have made it known that their eyes will be peeled for people who are driving under the influence. “Plan to go out with a designated driver or take mass transit or a taxi," Division of Highway Traffic Safety Acting Director Gary Poedubicky said in a statement on the agency's website. "If you can, spend the night, rather than getting behind the wheel. If you drink and plan to walk home, have a friend or family member escort you home.”
Know that your local transit systems have you covered with extra train service this New Year's holiday should you choose to venture to Times Square or nearby. From 10p.m. Monday night to 5a.m. Tuesday morning PATH will be operating trains around the clock between Hoboken and 33rd Street and Newark and 33rd Street.
NJ Transit also will operate extra trains until 5a.m. on Tuesday. For more information, take a look at their trip planner or call 973-275-5555.
Still set on going into New York for New Year's Eve? The Raritan Valley Line trains leaving from Cranford station will offer extra overnight service, but operate on a weekend schedule on New Years Day (schedules in PDF format are attached to this article). Here are some times to keep an eye on if you plan to stay in the city after midnight and get back to Cranford before dawn. Be safe, and Happy New Year!
