Video: Boy Scouts Help Cranford Prepare For Hurricane

Troop 80 spent the afternoon filling sandbags to help residents in the flood-prone township.

Led by Scoutmaster Bruce Linger and Troop Leader Jimmy Sweeney, about 20 members of Cranford Boy Scout Troop 80 joined parents and members of the Department of Public Works to fill sandbags in preparation for Hurricane Irene. The scouts spent the afternoon at the DPW "roundhouse" shoveling sand and loading trucks with the bags. Linger said the troop also planned to visit local neighborhoods Friday evening and volunteer to help residents move items off the ground in the event that flood waters submerge their property when the storm hits this weekend.
