Feast of St. Michael Celebrates Five Years as Town Tradition

The Feast of St. Michael celebrates its fifth year as a Cranford community event this Thursday through Sunday at the grounds of St. Michael's School on Holly Street.

Hosted by St. Michael's Parish and sponsored by a number of Cranford businesses and organizations, the Feast offers food, rides, prizes and live entertainment. Thousands of people have been known to stop by the festival during the four-day event; and Feast organizers expect a record turnout this year.

"It's far more than a St. Michael's event," said John McCann, member of St. Michael's Parish and webmaster for parish, school and Feast websites. "It is truly a Cranford community event and maybe even beyond that. You are just as likely to run into a neighbor at the Feast as you are a friend from a nearby town."

Attendees will get a chance to take in a bird's eye view of Cranford from atop a Ferris wheel, enjoy a spin on the Sizzler, listen to live performances by Brother John Brown (Friday) and 9South (Sunday), and snack on food from local eateries.

The event also offers a 50/50 raffle with $10 tickets for a chance to win a portion of the proceeds. Tickets can be purchased at the St. Michael's Parish Center. Remaining proceeds will be used to maintain and improve the church and school facilities.

"The Feast really is a safe, fun and family-friendly stop for you and your children--and it's just down the block," said McCann. "Leave the car at home and take a stroll into the downtown for some wholesome fun and games."

Check out the Feast on Thursday, 6-9 p.m.; Friday, 6-10 p.m.; Saturday, 3-10 p.m.; Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
