Five Things You Need To Know Today: July 5th

The events and happenings in the area to keep in mind for the day.

  1. The Red Shoes. The classic film The Red Shoes will be shown at the Cranford Public Library at 7:00 p.m. The movie, based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, follows a young ballerina torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a prima ballerina.
  2. Summer Arts Program.  will host its weekly Summer Arts Program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The sessions teach fine arts and crafts, and are taught by New Jersey Certified Art Teachers.
  3. Free Mixed Martial Arts.  will have a free trial mixed martial arts class from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. For more information or to register, call 908-497-1100.
  4. Downtown Jazz Festival. Westfield will hold its weekly Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Music can be heard outside various downtown locations, including the lawn in front of the North Avenue train station and in front of Banana Republic.
  5. Blood Drive. The Clark Emergency Volunteer Squad will hold a Blood Drive from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
