Where To Worship: Local Houses of Worship To Host Easter, Passover Services

Here is your guide to religious services taking place in Cranford for the upcoming Easter and Passover holidays.

  • Sunday - Worship Services at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. 

  • April 6, Good Friday - 7 p.m. Prayer, worship and meditation on the Passion of Jesus.
  • April 8, Easter Sunday - 10:15 a.m., Celebrating "Jesus is Risen and Heaven is Now."

  • April 6 - Service will include readings of the "Seven Last Words" of Christ interspersed with hymns and meditation along with an anthem provided by a community choir from the various congregations of Cranford. Sunday worship takes place at 10 a.m.

  • April 5, Maundy Thursday - 7:30 p.m. Worship Service with Holy Communion in the Dorothy Snyder Chapel. This service celebrates Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples.
  • April 6, Good Friday - 7:30 p.m. Tenebrae Service in the Sanctuary. This service of scripture reading, music and silent reflection recounts Jesus’ Passion. The sanctuary lights progressively dim until the point in the scripture in which Jesus Christ dies and the light is extinguished into Tenebrae, the Latin term for darkness.
  • April 8, Easter Sunday - 9 and 11 a.m. worship services.

  • Sunday worship - 11 a.m.

  • Sunday service, 10:30 a.m.

  • April 6, Good Friday - Noon to 3 p.m.,  "Jesus' Words from the Cross: A Three Hour Service of Devotion." This three hour service will feature the singing of hymns, appropriate prayers, the reading and preaching on Jesus' words from the cross and times for silent reflection. 7:30 p.m., "A Celebration of the Cross." This evening service will focus our attention upon the cross and the incredible "salvation work" that Christ accomplished there. 
  • April 8, Easter Sunday - 9:40 a.m., "Easter Morning Congregational Hymn Sing." Here is a new way to start our Easter celebration by joining together and singing praises to our risen King through an Easter morning congregational hymn sing. As we sing the songs of Easter our hearts will be prepared for our Easter Sunday worship service that will follow. 11 a.m., "The Glorious Victory Won by Christ." This morning service will focus on the incredible victory Christ won after His sufferings had passed. The service will also include the beautiful music of Easter.

  • Sunday service is at 10:30 a.m.

  • April 5, Holy Thursday - 7:30 p.m., Mass of the Lord's Supper
  • April 6, Good Friday - 3 p.m., Celebration of the Lord's passion and unveiling of the Cross and Communion; 7:30 p.m., Living Stations of the Cross.
  • April 7, Holy Saturday - 8:30 p.m. Easter Vigil.
  • April 8, Easter Sunday - Masses will be at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon.

  • April 7 - Passover First Day. Shaharit Services, 9:30 a.m.; Shabbat ends at 8:10 p.m.; Light candles after 8:10 p.m.
  • April 8 - Passover Second Day, Shaharit Services, 9:30 a.m.; Minha/Ma'ariv, 7:15 p.m.; Yom Tov Ends: 8:12 p.m.

  • April 5, Maundy Thursday - 9:30 a.m.,  Morning Prayer in Witherington Chapel, Agape Meal and Holy Eucharist.
  • April 6, Good Friday - 7 p.m., liturgy and stations of the cross. The church will be open for prayer, meditation, and reflection from noon to 3 p.m. 
  • April 8, Easter Sunday -  8 a.m. and 10 a.m. worship services.
