'It's Time to Work for the People,' Newly Elected Commissioner D'Ambola Says

Bob D'Ambola and Mary O'Connor have been elected as Cranford's next commissioners.

Mary O’Connor and Bob D’Ambola have won the two available commissioner seats on Cranford Committee, according to unofficial results from the clerk’s office.

O’Connor received a majority of the votes at 3,795 with D’Ambola close behind at 3,618, however these results do not include mail in ballots.

O’Connor and D’Ambola frequent many of the township meetings in order to convey the concerns of Cranford residents. D’Ambola outlined some of Cranford’s major issues as flooding and taxes.

"We started walking in July to meet and speak with as many Cranford residents as possible. We covered well over 100 miles and knocked on 4,000 doors. It was an exhausting but very rewarding journey. We were able to get a personal up close view if what concerned people from all over town," D'Ambola said. "Now it's time to go to work for those people and keep Cranford a great place."

O’Connor outlined some of Cranford’s issues as fighting the Birchwood Development, flood control and professional management in the township.

O'Connor said that the election night was exciting and fun, but echoed D'Ambola's sentiment that it is now time to get to work.

"I would like to thank the voters in Cranford for their tremendous support and will work hard on the issues they have brought to our attention during the past ten months. From the very beginning we decided to run a positive, grass roots campaign, walking through our beautiful Cranford neighborhoods and meeting the people who call Cranford home," O'Connor said. "It has been a remarkable experience and I will always be grateful to the many people who took the time to talk to us."

Current commissioner Kevin Campbell received 3,362 votes and candidate Kelly Howard received 3,267.
