Cranford Halloween Parade

The Cranford Recreation and Parks Department and the Cranford Jaycees are sponsoring a Halloween Parade on Sunday, Oct. 27. Gathering and registration will begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the Cranford Community Center.  Judging will start at 1:30 p.m.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the Cranford Community Center.  It will continue west on Walnut Avenue, north across South and North Avenue, up North Union Avenue, across Alden and end at the Gazebo in Parking Lot #1 (near the Fire Dept.).

Don’t miss the Pumpkin Chunkin at 2:30 p.m., followed by the awards presentation. Awards will be given out for Best Costume in the following age groups: 0-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-16.  Other categories include: adult/child team, group, hand-pulled mini floats and pets (which is new this year).

Parade escorts include the Cranford Police Department, Cranford Fire Department, and the Cranford Emergency Squad.

The Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Chunkin, now in its 13th year, has become a Cranford tradition.  Unfortunately, the event has been scaled back for the past two years due to weather.  Last year, the Parade and Pumpkin Chunkin had to be cancelled at the last minute due to Hurricane Sandy.  The Costume Judging was held inside the Community Center.  In 2011, the Pumpkin Chunkin portion of the event was cancelled due to preparations for the early blizzard that came the next day.  We’re hoping this year the weather will cooperate.

This is a great family event that the kids are guaranteed to love.  Please be sure to bring out your little ghouls and goblins for the parade or just come down to cheer them on.
