Cranford VFW Hosts Annual Veterans Breakfast

The event was a huge success, according to coordinators.

The following information was provided by Cranford VFW.

Cranford VFW Post #335 held their annual Veterans Breakfast successfully on Sunday, November 10 with a full house in attendance.  Held at the Post Home on South Avenue, in Cranford this event is held every year in honor of Veterans Day. 

Among the attendees who graciously addressed the audience were Union County Sheriff Ralph Froelich andCranford’s Mayor Tom Hannen.  The featured speaker was Kenilworth VFW Post #2230 Commander Robert “Bobby” Jeans who spoke on the mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and it’s obligations to all veterans.

Of special note were several students from Hillside Avenue School, led by teacher Paul Maloney, who gave heartfelt talks on what Veterans Day means to them.  Students Megan Joyce, Colin Budries, Joe Risko, Catherine McCarthy and Martha Hurley all received a wonderful applause from the grateful audience.

Also Mark Dinglestadt, Jim Singer and Jim Byrnes of the Cranford Knights of Columbus presented to the VFW “Support the Troops” Chairman Mike Carberry, a check in the amount of $250.00 to help defray the shipping costs that the Post incurs during it’s monthly shipments to it’s adopted unit in Afghanistan.  Previously, donations were received from both the Cranford Jaycees and Barry O’Donovan of the Kilkenny House in support of the program.  Some 40 to 80 pounds of supplies are sent each month by the Cranford VFW Post to the 55thSustainment Brigade located at Camp PheonixAfghanistan.  Any one interested in assisting the VFW in this program can contact Commander Jim D’Arcy at jimdrc@verizon.net or 908-482-0132.
