Harvie's Inferno: Game 2 - Mark it 120, Dude

Harvie's Inferno: New Jersey's team wins two straight as MArtin Brodeur gets all Supermanish and Bryce Salvador gets all Batmanish!

Martin Brodeur continues to make it nearly impossible for any other goalie to surpass his shutout record, which now stands at 120, as the Devils beat the Flyers three to zero Tuesday night.

Once again it wasn't the prettiest of wins, but the Devils did what they needed to do, scoring three goals, while getting a stellar performance out of future hall of famer Martin Brodeur. The man behind the mask led the Devils team and was the confidence booster New Jersey needed as they spent a lot of time short handed in the first two periods.

However, being short-handed was not a problem for the Devils. Ilya Kovalchuk scored on a penalty shot, while the team was down a man, after being hooked on a breakaway. The Devils generated a lot of offense while short-handed, which deflated the Flyers.

Captain Bryce Salvador answered that Bat-signal I mentioned a few weeks ago, as roughed up Max Talbot seemed to get a little chippy knocking a few Devils from behind and then slashing Salvador in the ankle.

Speaking of idiots, Flyers captain Claude Giroux ran his mouth an aweful lot during the match-up. It is to be expected when your team is having a rough start and an even rougher game. But any momentum the Flyers could've generated was deflated twice by his jackassery.

Back to being positive.Travis Zajac and David Clarkson are course for 48 goal seasons, as they recorded the first and second goals of the evening respectively. In addition, Clarkson dropped the gloves against Wayne Simmons near the end of the third period - in what I would at best call a draw (it was a rather lame fight, with neither one of the two giving up much ground or landing any great punches. It was more of a wrestling match).

The game had it all, superb goal-tending, excellent short-handed play, a penalty shot and a whole bunch of fighting. Essentially, it was your basic Devils-Flyers game.

One final note. I am putting a moratorium on speaking about the loss of Zach Parise to free agency. I was getting annoyed at the NBC Sports announcers who mentioned Parise just about every five minutes, usually starting the mention with "the loss of their best player..." I'm done. The guy left in the summer. I'd rather focus on what the Devils have - four fairly solid lines.

The Devils are 2-0 to start the year, earning four key points against division rivals. They weren't perfect wins, and the team will have to continue to play tough for 60 straight minutes for the remaining 46 games if they want to continue this success. Coach Pete DeBoer has a great system that works, and the team keeps giving me things to cheer about.

Let's go Devils!
