CHS Hockey Program Creator, George F. Slocum, Dies at 67

A Cranford ice hockey scholarship was created in his name in 1996.


George F. Slocum, 67, passed away peacefully January 19, 2014 at home.

Visitation is at the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West in Cranford Wednesday 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services on Thursday at 9:30 AM at St. Michael’s Church, Cranford.

George was instrumental in the formation of the CHS Hockey program, and took great pride in its success. A scholarship in his name was started in 1996.

Born on July 13, 1946, he worked in the oil and cell phone industries for many years. George was predeceased by his parents, Helen and James Slocum and his brother James. He was a 1964 graduate of Cranford H.S. and attended Curry College.

George is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Mary (Lynch) Slocum; daughter Jennifer Reilly (James); son Patrick (Jaime); his sister Joan Alder (Bill); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Kathleen Slocum, Bill and Kathy O’Donnell, and Fr. Patrick Lynch CSSR.

The cherished Poppy of Emma, Madeline & Caitlin, he is also survived by his nephews and many wonderful friends.
