Former Cranford Fire Captain, Edward E. Reade, Dies at 93

Reade served in the Army Corps of Engineers in World War II.

Edward E. Reade, 93, of Boonton, NJ, formerly of Cranford, NJ, passed away on December 10, 2013. He led a full and robust life.

Ed was born in Piscataway, NJ. He married his beautiful wife, Lillian, on September 11, 1943. After serving in the Army Corps of Engineers in World War II, he graduated from Union College and Upsala College. He retired from the Cranford Fire Department as a Captain with 36 years of service. Ed served as FMBA President and Secretary and was Executive Delegate to the State FMBA. He also was the coordinator and an instructor of the Emergency Medical Technician program at Union County College.

Ed also participated in various organizations and his church. He was a member of VFW Post 335, a member of the Azure-Masada Masonic Lodge, and President and Secretary of the Cranford Kiwanis Club. Ed served as Senior Warden and member of the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford.

He is survived by his sister, Grace Dorn, his son, Edward W. Reade, and his wife, Kathy, his daughter, Joyce Schiaffo, and her husband, Thomas, his grandchildren, Charles, Edward, Joanna, Rebecca, and Sarah, and his great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Emily, Faith, and Noah.

Relatives and friends are welcome to his life celebration on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford. Go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on line condolences. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
