Cops Offer Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treating

Walking with a parent and wearing bright clothes are among the recommendations.

The Cranford Police Department wants local children and families to be extra careful when out trick-or-treating on Halloween eve.

Detective Lt. Robert Colaneri has generated these tips for staying safe on Halloween:

  • Be bright at night
  • Look both ways and listen for traffic before crossing 
  • Cross at corners 
  • If there are no sidewalks, always walk facing traffic 
  • Think about your trick of treat route and make sure your parents know where you will be 
  • Wear a disguise that does not obstruct your vision 
  • Invite others to join the fun of safe Trick or Treating

  • Be careful using the cell phone while walking or crossing streets
  • Do not eat candy that is in opened or unwrapped wrappers 
  • Have a parent or guardian check candy before eating 
  • Do not go inside a stranger's home, even if asked

 

There is no township ordinance that limits when residents can be out.
