Cranford FD Responds to Home Fire in Westfield

Residents woke up to smoke and firefighters screaming to get out.

Four teenagers are safe after fleeing their West Broad Street home during a mid-morning fire on Wednesday.

A fire broke out in the first floor bedroom of 439 West Broad Street around 10 a.m. with four residents occupying two of the building's three apartments. All of the teenagers were sleeping at the time of the fire, which sent smoke billowing out of the bedroom window.

A Cranford Fire Department engine helped Westfield evacuate the residents and extinguish the fire. The engine remained on the scene for a period, joined by a Cranford fire pick-up truck which rushed in after the fire had been extinguished.
