Heroin Bust Leads to Cranford Man's Arrest

A Cranford man was arrested and charged Tuesday after detectives caught a Newark man selling him heroin on a street corner in Newark, according to state Police.

James Sharkey, 25, was charged with drug possession and possession of a hypodermic syringe. He was released on his own recognizance, according to NJ.com.

Gerron Ingram, of Newark, who was allegedly selling the 10 decks of heroin to Sharkey, ran off when he saw detectives coming, but was quickly caught by troopers, a sergeant told NJ.com.

Ingram was caught carrying a handgun and the investigation led down the road to 515 Elizabeth Avenue where troopers found two more handguns, 248 decks of heroin, 105 Percoset pills, 158 Oxycodone pills, 2.7 ounces of crack cocaine and 154 grams of marijuana, detectives told NJ.com. The drugs were worth about $16,950 on the street, NJ.com reported.

Ingram was charged with drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of a park, illegal possession of a weapon, possession of an illegal high-capacity magazine and resisting arrest by flight and other charges, Sgt. Brian Polite told NJ.com. He is being held at the Essex County Jail on $500,000 bail.
