Cranford Police Make Arrests For Drugs, DWI

The following information was obtain from the Cranford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 4

  • A Scotch Plains man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated on Aug 4. at 2:41 a.m., Patrolman Michael Dubitsky stopped a 2002 Lexus for multiple motor vehicle violations. As a result of the investigation, the driver, Christopher Colon, 37, was arrested for DWI.  Colon was issued motor vehicle summonses for DWI, refusal to submit breath samples, two red light violations and careless driving.  He was released with a Cranford Municipal Court date.
  • At 3:33 a.m. Patrolman Robert Jordan stopped a 2004 Dodge for a motor vehicle violation on Centennial Avenue at Hillside Avenue. As a result of the investigation the driver, Joseph Shelmet, 49, of Rahway, was arrested for DWI. Shelmet was issued motor vehicle summonses for DWI and failure to keep right. He was released with a municipal court date.
  • At 9:32 p.m., Patrolman Michael Dubitsky stopped a 1991 Honda for a motor vehicle violation on Centennial Avenue at Hayes Street. During the investigation the driver, Anthony Dahoney, 24, of Avanel, was arrested and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of suspected marijuana less and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued motor vehicle summonses for have a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and a stop sign violation. He was released with a municipal court date.

Aug. 6

  • At 5 a.m., Cranford Police responded to a Crescent Place residence on the report of a burglary in progress. Following an on scene investigation, Patrolman Derek Farbanec arrested and charged Devin Chiari, 21, of Roselle Park, with criminal trespass. He was released with a municipal court date.
  • At 7:23 p.m., Patrolman John Rattigan stopped a 1996 Honda for a motor vehicle violation. Following an investigation, the driver, Christian Jerez, 22, of Elizabeth, was arrested for an outstanding criminal warrant out of Elizabeth, $250 bail. Jerez was released on bail with an Elizabeth Court date pending.
