Motor Vehicle Stops Lead to Three Drug Arrests, Police Say

Trio face drug distribution and possession charges in separate incidents last week.

Cranford Police arrested three people last week on drug charges stemming from motor vehicle stops.

Xavier Rodriguez, 20, of Linden was arrested by Patrolman Spencer Durkin and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rodriguez was the passenger of a vehicle stopped for a passenger seat belt violation at about 9:10 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street. The officer discovered eight Ziploc bags of suspected marijuana, as well as packing materials, police said.

The driver, an 18-year-old female from West Orange, was cited for operating while suspended and an inspection violation. She was released from the scene.

Rodriguez was arrested, processed and released pending an appearance in Superior Court.
On Dec. 10 at 9:30 p.m., two Winfield Park residents were arrested for possession of heroin at Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue, police said.

Todd Donahue, 35, and Shane Eaton, 28, were charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia after Durkin stopped their vehicle for an inoperable brake light, police said. During an investigation at the scene, Durkin discovered Donahue and Eaton in possession of heroin, police said.

The two men were arrested, processed and released pending an appearance in Superior Court.
