Cranford Police Make Several Drug Arrests

made several drug arrests late last month following investigations that began as routine motor vehicle stops and traffic checkpoints.

On May 19 a routine motor vehcile checkpoint in led to the arrest of two men for drug possession.

At 10:40 a.m., police were conducting a checkpoint near the corner of South and Hollywood avenues. During an investigation of one of the vehicles, Patrolman Spencer Durkin arrested and charged the driver, Matthew DiMarco, 24, of Cranford, with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, Daniel Marrero, 26, of Garwood, with arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

DiMarco was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to make repairs, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to exhibit his driver’s license. DiMarco and Marrero were processed and released with a Superior Court date.

On May 27, Patrolman Timothy O’Brien stopped a 1999 Acura on North Avenue East at 2:55 p.m. for motor vehicle violations. As a result of the investigation the driver, Andres Bernal, 18, of Trenton, was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Bernal was also issued motor vehicle summonses for possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, and obstructed view. Bernal was released with a date of June 13 at 5:30 pm.

On May 28, following an investigation of a suspicious occupied vehicle parked on Brookside Court, Patrolman Timothy O’Brien arrested the driver, Mathew Dellandrino, 23, of Garwood. Dellandrino was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was also issued a motor vehicle summon for possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. Dellandrino was released with a Cranford Municipal Court date of June 13 at 5:30 pm.

On May 29, at 6:34 p.m., Patrolman Steven D’Ambola stopped a 2012 Mercedes Benz for motor vehicle violations on North Avenue near Miln Street. During the investigation, Ptl. D’Ambola arrested Adam Schpakow, 29, of Jersey City, for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Schpakow was also issued motor vehicle summonses for possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and failure to wear a seatbelt. Schpakow was released with a Cranford Municipal Court date.
