Security Camera Helps Nab Alleged iPhone Thief

Security camera footage helped detectives track down a cell phone thief, Cranford Police said.

According to police, a 17-year-old Cranford resident reported on his iPhone 5 was stolen Thursday from the Cranford Community Center during an open recreation period.

Using security camera footage, Detective Ryan Greco was able to identify the alleged thief as Joshua Diaz, 23, of Kenilworth, and issued a warrant for his arrest, Cranford Police reported. Diaz was arrested at his Kenilworth home, charged with theft and released on $5,000 bail.

During the arrest, Detective John Swandrak obtained information that led to the cell phone being recovered at a Route 22 electronics store where Diaz had sold it, police said.
