Cranford Mom Accused of Trying to Kill Children in Car Fire

Narcissa Zuber, 48, has been charged with setting her minivan on fire with two children inside on the Garden State Parkway.

CRANFORD, N.J.—A township woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly set her vehicle containing two children on fire on Oct. 26, Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park and New Jersey State Superintendent Rick Fuentes said on Tuesday.

Narcissa Zuber, 48, set her minivan on fire on the Garden State Parkway in Clark last month, according to an investigation by the prosecutor’s office, the Troop E criminal investigation office and the Arson Unit of the New Jersey State Police.

Zuber is additionally charged with aggravated arson and child endangerment, the prosecutor’s office said. She was arrested Friday following her release from the hospital and was transported to Union County Jail where she is being held on $800,000 bail.

The children were rushed to an area hospital following the accident, but have now been released and continue to recover. A spokesman for the prosecutor's office, Mark Spivey, would not release the ages of the children, but said they are pre-adolescent age. Their names are being withheld due to their age and to protect them as juvenile crime victims, he added.
