Accident Causes Miles Of Parkway Traffic

No serious injuries reported

An accident near exit 136 on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway caused miles of delays this morning. No serious injuries were reported.

Cranford police officer Eugene Perrotta responded to a two-car accident at roughly 5 a.m. One vehicle was against the center divider in the left lane, the other was off to the side of the road. Both occupants reported minor injuries. Officer Perrotta's unoccupied cruiser was parked with its lights on in the left lane about 25 feet behind the disabled vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. when a Dodge Caravan travelling in the left lane struck the cruiser. Neither Officer Perrotta nor the Caravan's driver (there were no passengers) were injured.

Lane closures caused traffic to backup for miles at around 7 a.m. this morning. At one point, all northbound lanes were closed, and two lanes were kept closed throughout the cleanup of the accident. By 10 a.m. the accident had been cleared, and the NJ State Police are currently investigating the cause of the original accident.
