Amtrack Delays Expected After Truck Strikes Train Bridge

Trains on Amtrak's northeast corridor will be delayed after tractor-trailer sustains heavy damage attempting to cross under bridge on Deans Lane.

Deans Lane has been closed near Blackhorse Lane after a tractor-trailer carrying water struck a train bridge over the roadway.

The accident has delayed trains traveling on the Amtrak northeast corridor, as there are concerns about the structural integrity of the bridge.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m., when the truck driver was headed down Deans Lane from Route 1 and made it about three-fourths of the way under the bridge crossing, according to police.

South Brunswick Police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan said Amtrak officials are en route to inspect the damage. Police are on scene and traffic is being diverted at Georges Road and Blackhorse Lane. Sgt. Ryan said the roadway will be closed for at least the next two hours.

The accident is expected to delay trains traveling on the northeast corridor for the next few hours.
