Driver Arrested for Alleged Marijuana Possession

Cranford police activity this week.

  • Cranford Police arrested Danny Becton, 56, for alleged possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana May 11 on Centennial Avenue by Raritan Road, according to Det. Sgt. Gerard Quinn of the Cranford Police Department.

Ptl. Spencer Durkin first pulled over Becton, a Montclair resident, in a 1996 Ford pick-up truck around 11 p.m., after noticing that the vehicle's brake lights weren't working, police reports say. Ptl. Durkin located suspected marijuana in the vehicle ashtray and on the front seat. Becton is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court on May 18.

  • This week several large ceramic pots were also reported overturned on Walnut Avenue by South Avenue West on May 13, an incident that Cranford Police discovered around midnight and are chalking up to criminal mischief. Police are asking that residents with any information on the perpetrators call Lt. James Wozniak at 908-709-7358.
