Drunken Man Crashes After Hour-Long Pursuit on GSP, State Police Say

Morristown resident led authorities on chase through Essex County early Monday morning, report said.

A drunken Morristown man led authorities on an hour-long, multi-county pursuit along the Garden State Parkway early Monday morning before crashing in Passaic County, State Police said.

Eiber Betancur, 26, was charged with drunken driving and eluding after leading authorities on a pursuit that began in Union Township at about 1 a.m. and ended in Clifton when he crashed near GSP mile-marker 154 at about 2:15 a.m., according to NJ.com.

Driving a green Ford Ranger pickup truck, Betancur made several illegal U-turns in the emergency lanes of the highway and was finally stopped when police used speed sticks to puncture his tires, according to NJ.com.

The real news is that Mr. Betancur and the police were able to drive for a full hour on the GSP without hitting a traffic jam.
