Fire Consumes Vehicle on Centennial Avenue

The car fire occurred near Myrtle Street.

A car engine caught fire on Sunday evening at the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Myrtle Street, according to the Cranford Fire Department.

The engine of a 2000 Ford Expedition caught fire at approximately 11:33 p.m. in front of 41 Myrtle Street and the fire soon extended into the passenger compartment, Captain John Talbot of the Cranford Fire Department said.

According to the driver, he pulled out of his driveway at approximately 7 p.m. that evening and had no issues with the vehicle.

Cranford firefighters extinguished the fire, but the cause is “undetermined” due the extent of damage to the vehicle, Talbot added.  The vehicle was a total loss, he said, as the fire spread through the entire truck.
