Man Hit by Bus

Garwood Police say victim suffered multiple cuts, bruises.

A man stepped off the curb and was hit by a NJ Transit bus around 7 p.m. by the intersection of Lincoln and North Avenue in Garwood.

Initially emergency services called in a helicopter airlift, but cancelled it in favor of moving  the victim to the University Hospital Trauma Center in Newark by ambulance, according to Lt. Bruce Underhill of the Garwood Police Department. The victim suffered multiple cuts and bruises.

"It does not appear to be life threatening at this time," Underhill said.

Garwood Police and Fire Department blocked off a portion of North Avenue – from Anchor Place to Cedar Street – for around 30 minutes after the incident.
