Suspect Charged With Money Theft

Officers conclude a four-month-long investigation stemming from January theft incidents.

Cranford Police arrested 22-year-old Vincent Reis as he walked out of his Rahway home on May 2, and charged him with burglary and theft of credit cards. The arrest is a conclusion to a four-month-long investigation by the Cranford detective bureau of four January stealing incidents at a Cranford fitness center. The name of the center was withheld by police in the press statement.

On January 14 a Clark resident reported the theft of a wallet, credit cards and $140 cash from a personal locker at the center. Four days later an Elizabeth resident told police that a wallet, $50 cash and five credit cards were stolen from a locker. On Jan. 20 in the gym parking lot a Linden resident reported that his car was burglarized, the perpetrator taking $25 in cash.

One clue to the identity of the suspect came when one of the stolen credit cards was swiped at a local convenience store, police said. The fitness center management also helped detectives in identifying Reis as the suspect.
